How Energetic is Your Field?

Recently, I have been writing and reading a lot about the energy “field” that the universe is made up of and that science now tells us, what eastern traditions have known for years, that we are made up of as well. This energy field connects us to everyone and everything and makes us, as Deepak Chopra says “interwoven and inseparably one”.

I have been making a conscious effort to be more aware of my “field” of energy. Not only the energy created by my internal thoughts and feelings but also the energy in my external environment.

Here are a few things that I noticed:

1) Clutter: When I have clutter in my home, whether it is in my bedroom closet or my purse I feel less organized, am less efficient with my time and feel a little scattery too.

2) Television: We normally don’t watch a lot of television at our house. We DVR our favorite shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and watch them on a relaxed night. The other weekend my in-laws were visiting and they love to watch the news and be informed. It is usually the first thing they turn on in the morning and watch while they have their breakfast. I was really aware that even though I wasn’t really watching it but hearing in the background it made a real difference in how I felt starting my day. I usually take time in the morning to exercise or do something to set a positive intention for my day and by not doing that and listening to the news I just didn’t feel as good. Seems like a small thing but it really made a difference in how I felt.

3) Whose business am I in?: I had the opportunity to see Byron Katie in Toronto last fall and she said something that I really love and that I find helpful in my own life and with my coaching clients as well. She says that there are only three types of business, my business, your business and God’s business. When we are in other people’s business no one is minding our business and our business is the only place we have control. I notice that when my thinking is in other people’s business, even when it is out of worry or concern for the people in my life, my energy shifts and I don’t feel as good. I know from an energetic standpoint and have learned from many years of mastering worry, that my worry does not help them or me so when I shift back into my business and become aware of my worry, I change my thinking and I am able to offer support from a much more positive place. Worried energy vibrates at a much different level then love or understanding. I know that I feel better when I do this and I can tell that it is more helpful to them as well. The energy we give off with our thinking not only affects how we feel but affects our environment or what we contribute to the whole.

So, if you would like to do a few things to keep your energy positive you can try these things;

1) De-clutter one space in your home that you often see. Try cleaning out a desk drawer or a bathroom cupboard and see how it makes you feel.

2) Be aware of the images and sounds that go on in your environment. Our subconscious mind is really receptive to what we pick up with our senses especially first thing in the morning or just before bed when we are in a more relaxed state. Try not to watch anything violent or upsetting before bed and instead take a bath or read something that makes your feel good. This will help prepare you for a good nights sleep and sweet dreams.

3) Check in with your thoughts throughout the day and see whose “business” you are in. If you find yourself in a place of worry about something like a sick friend, see if you can shift your thinking and send them loving thoughts or picture them in really good health.

4) Before going into a situation ,whether it be a discussion of conflict with your partner or just spending time with your kids, ask yourself “What type of energy do I want to bring to this situation”, and see what comes up for you.

See how doing these things makes you feel throughout the day and make a habit to do what feels good on a regular basis!

    Hi Leanne, I agree with you on the television thing. I probably watch about 1 hour of television a month and usually it’s a business related show like Dragon’s Den or Shark Tank (sometimes Apprentice, although the celebrity version I’m not as keen on)…but I find when I watch too much news it really reminds me of everything negative in the world and sort of sets my day or night to that same tune. Instead I focus on the positive things I’m doing, walking my dogs, or listening to empowering training audios. This sets my day up to be fantastic no matter what is going on.
    My husband often gets annoyed that I don’t always know what’s going on in the world…but I figure if it’s important enough to know about, someone will tell me.

    Cheers…and thanks for your post. We still need to do lunch sometime soon…or a tea…Tracy
